DODGERS TAKE MAJOR BOYS TITLE, 3-2, OVER YANKEES

June 15, 2019:  In the second and final game of the Major Boys Championship Series, the Dodgers edged the Yankees, 3-2, to win the Championship of the PRLL Major Boys Division.  Much like Game 1, the pitching on both sides was stellar, but the Dodgers rallied from a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the fourth inning for the winning margin, with the bullpen doing the rest of the work.   See Game & Trophy Photos.

In Game 1 of the Championship Series on Thursday, the Yankees and Dodgers had matched up in a 9-inning pitching duel.  With the score tied at 1-1 after 8 innings, the Yankees, with three extra base hits, scored 3 times to win, 4-1, to force this deciding game.  See Photos of game (link).

AAA PIRATES SHOCK CONGERS IN MacROBBIE OPENER

Sat., June 15, 2019:   The Pirates, Champions of PRLL's AAA Division, traveled to Nanuet Little League's fields in Lake Nanuet to take on minor league champions of other Rockland County Little Leagues in the annual Michael MacRobbie Memorial Tournament.  In their first game, against Congers, the team fell behind, 8-4, in the third inning, but chipped away with two runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to tie the game.  The excitement, however, faded as Congers struck for four runs in the bottom fifth to lead 12-8.  The Pirates did not give up, and rained hits in the top of the sixth to not only tie the game but take a 13-12 lead, with Terrance Loughlin driving in the tying and go-ahead runs.  The Pirates then brought in their closer, Luke DiFabio, who got two quick outs via strikeout before a bloop hit put a man on.  A second hit set the wheels in motion, with the Congers baserunner trying to come in to score, but a great defensive play by the Pirates (CF Freddy Palumbo to 3B Cole Feshal to C Liam Walsh) cut the runner down at the plate for the third and final out to set off a wild celebration. The team plays again on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. against either Nanuet or Haverstraw.  Update:  After 3 days of rain, the Pirates suffered a loss in the single-elimination tournament.  But the team had fun and represented PRLL well in the tournament.   See Game Photos Here

In a semi-final game on July 2, the team lost an 8-inning heartbreaker to Stony Point, 8-6. The boys had a good run and represented PRLL well.    addendum 8/1/19: The 12's went out on a winning note in taking the New City Arc Tournament title (see above).

The same teams played a winner-take-all Championship game on Wednesday, July 3, with Stony Point taking the title, 6-3.  They will play again in West Nyack's 11 Year-Old Tournament starting on July 8.   ADDENDUM JULY 15, 2019:  The 11's defeated Suffern, 5-1 today in the final of the West Nyack Tournament for 11 year-olds, and start their summer with a championship.  Congratulations to the coaches and players.  Game and Trophy Photos here

Matt Dilorenzo and the boys 10's won their first D18 game on Sunday 6/23, defeating New City, 7-5 at 5:00 p.m (Game Photos Here - Thanks, Trish!).  They lost their second game, on 6/24, to the tournament host, Suffern, at Suffern Little League.  They then lost a very close 5-4 game to Nanuet on 6/28, and were eliminated from the tournament.

Marty Donohue and the PRLL boys' 9 year-old all-stars played their first game in the West Nyack Tournament on Wednesday, June 26, and defeated Nanuet, 11-4, in five innings. They lost to Haverstraw, 7-5 (Game Photos Here from both games - Thanks again, Trish!), on 6/27, to finish 1-1 in pool play.  In the playoffs, the team dropped a close 8-7 game to South Orangetown on July 1, at 8 p.m.  The team, however, will have another chance to play next week in the Kayser-Brady Tournament, hosted by PRLL (starts on July 9). Kiera Luckie was the winning pitcher, assisted by a grand slam homer over the center field fence by Casey Urban, and a solo shot over the right field fence by Antonia Guglielmo.  (See Game Photos here).  Update 6/22 The team followed up their opening victory with a 12-2 victory over Nanuet/West Nyack.   Update 6/23:  The 12's dropped a close 3-1 game to Haverstraw (at Haverstraw), but will earn a re-match if they can win their next game on Wednesday, 6/25 at Anderson, against Nanuet/West Nyack.  Update 6/25:  PRLL defeated Nanuet/West Nyack, 6-1, behind the pitching of Kiera Luckie  (See Game Photos here), and earned a re-match with Haverstraw, which will take place at Haverstraw on Thursday, June 26 at 6 p.m.  Update 6/25:  The Girls 12s fell victim to a last-inning rally by Haverstraw, who won 13-12, to end PRLL's tournament.  The team was a great representative for the League. We are proud of them for their efforts this year, and of course for their state title last year.  It is very difficult for a team to repeat as District champions, and the girls gave their best effort.  They have earned an enjoyable and restful summer.

ADDENDUM: 7/14/19: Before starting their vacation, the 12's made a stop at the Hank Jaxel Memorial Tournament, where they won the tournament championship.  A great way to start the summer!! Congratulations!!

GIRLS' 12's WIN JAXEL TOURNAMENT

July 15, 2019:   The Major Girls 12 year-old All-Star team, after placing second in the District 18 tournament (see below), have won the Hank Jaxel Memorial Tournament.  This team has been a winning one and a credit to Pearl River Little League for 4 years, and we wish them well in the future.

BOYS' 12's POST 6-0 MARK IN WINNING ARC TOURNAMENT TITLE

8/1/19:  The Pearl River 12 year-old baseball all-stars went undefeated (4-0) in pool play, then scored victories in the semi-final and final games to win the annual Arc Tournament, held at New City's Zukor Field.  The team posted wins over Suffern, Nyack/Valley Cottage, Nanuet and Stony Point in pool play, gaining the number one seed. Their win over Stony Point in the last pool game avenged an earlier extra-inning elimination loss in the District 18 tournament.

On Thursday 8/1, the team played the semi-final and final.  Reed McCarthy and Shane Tobin shut down Suffern with no earned runs, and Ethan Lee (with a smooth 6-3 double play) and Ben Respanti (who ran down a pop up in foul ground from second base position to end the game) provided strong defense in an 8-2 victory.

Ethan Lee started the final against New City (a team they have faced in the three tournaments over the past three years, prevailing each time).   Ethan threw 5 and a third shutout innings, leaving the game with a four-run lead and no one on base. New City would not go easy, though, as they rallied with the top of their order to push two runs across and brought the tying run to the plate before the final strike was called.  Ben Respanti recorded the save.

Defensive highlights:

Ethan Lee 85 pitches 5 and a 1/3  0 runs.

Jack Dupas inning ender 4-3 P.O. on an absolute smash.

Shane Tobin staying with the play in RF after taking a very hard one hop liner off his face that he dove on to keep it out of the corner to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Reed McCarthy momentum killing throw out of runner attempting to advance to 2nd on a wild pitch to end the top 5th keeping the score at 1-0.

On offense:

Reed 1 RBI in 3rd 1-0

Ethan 2 RBI in 5th 3-0

Brendan Carlacci 1 RBI in 5th 4-0

Chsrlie Seidel and Brian Bongi crushed two shots but were robbed of hits by great defensive plays.
